It was raining during the beginning of the gathering. But that didn’t the crowd from showing their disagreement of the Lynas Rare Earth plant in Kuantan. Coincidently there was an exhibition of military at the field at the same time. So there were quite a lot of uniformed officers there.

At first there was a leading person from RAKYAT (I assumed) guiding the crowd to shout “Anti Lynas”. Just as the activity started for a split second, there was a group of people who claimed themselves to be UMNO Youth acting as the supporters of the rare earth project. They were not friendly. They were like FFA(free for all), meaning provoking a fight with any random person. They wanted to get the scene as violent as possible so that the central government would blame the state government. They demolished the green boxes wording the slogan of this anti Lynas act.

The UMNO youth members demanded the dismiss of this protest and provoked the crowd.

A Lynas supporter shouted on the stage, but the crowd responsed with booing.

CM Lim Guan Eng was giving a speech on the Stage.

From there, aggressive arguments lasted for around 5 minutes. During the shouting at each other, there were some body contacts from both parties. But the situation was still under control. I walked closely, took a picture and updated my first Facebook status during this period.

There was an UMNO youth member stood on the stage shouting something. Of course there was another round of shouting contest. The leading person from RAKYAT demanded the crowd to stay calm and sit down. Since the crowd ignored the provoking of the UMNO youth, the gathering stayed in a very discipline order. Everyone was just handing up his/her poster and listening. But the UMNO youth was still picking up random people for fight.

The arrival of CM Lim Guan Eng broke the silence. The crowd rejoiced. CM Lim Guan Eng was escorted by members of Pasukan Peronda Sukarela which translated Voluntary Patrolling Team.  The UMNO youth charged in preventing CM Lim Guan Eng to step on the stage. The UMNO youth was picking up fight again to create havoc so that police would get involve in order dismissing the gathering.

  They shouted :
“Cina balik Cina”(You Chinese go back to China)
 “Cina bodoh”(Stupid Chinese)
“This is Penang, not Kuantan. The Lynas plant is none of your business.”
“You (Lim Guan Eng) are not from Penang. This is not your hometown.”

With a few charges assisted by CM Lim Guan Eng bodyguards, he finally stormed himself to the stage. But these rascles were still screaming "Lim Guan Eng Penitu"(Lim Guan Eng is a liar) on the stage at the same time to interrupt the speech.

The violence started while CM Lim Guan Eng was leaving the stage. Just as the Lynas supporter charged at CM Lim Guan Eng, Adam Chew become the main target of beating for defending CM Lim Guan Eng. As you can see from below, it’s a famous video showing the Lynas supporters beating up , who is reporter from Kwong Wah.

Adam suffered from a big cut on his finger and head impact. As you can see his red eye on the right which is believed to be hit by a helmet.

The Lynas supporters latter assaulted the car of CM Lim Guan Eng and prevent him from leaving the scene. They even faked a blackout in front of the car.

I was very touched when seeing these old men using their bodies as human shield to guard CM Lim Guan Eng's car.
