Penang World Music Festival 2012

Event : Penang World Music Festival 2012

Date : 30 March - 1 April 2012

Time : n/a

Location : Botanic Garden

AFTER a three-year hiatus, the Penang World Music Festival featuring local and international musicians will return next year.

Organised by the Penang Tourism Development and Culture office and UCSI Communications Sdn Bhd, the festival will be held from March 30 to April 1, 2012 at the Quarry Recreational Park in the Penang Botanic Gardens.

State Tourism Development and Culture Committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang said musicians from India, China, New Zealand, Brazil and Australia were being invited to perform at the festival.

“We hope that this event can push up our tourism sector by bringing in more tourists to Penang,” he said at the launching of the festival at Hotel Royal Penang on Jalan Larut yesterday.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who was at the launch, said the festival was not held for the past three years because there was no funding by the Federal Government to hold it.

“But after three years of savings, we will restore this festival,” he said, adding that the event would be an exciting journey and put Penang on the music map.

There will be music workshops and concerts, as well as activities for children.

The night concert, to begin at 7pm, will showcase musicians playing an ensemble of traditional, not-so-old and modern musical instruments.

The festival is supported by KDU College (Penang campus) and Virtual Malaysia, with Hard Rock Hotel as the official hotel.

Tickets for the festival are priced at RM90 for an all-day multiple entry for adults and RM45 for children aged five to 12.

Three-day passes are priced at RM220 for adults and RM120 for children.

Tickets are now available online at www.ticketxpress.com.my following the launch yesterday.

Early bird rates are also offered until Sept 16.

Those who buy tickets during this period need to pay only RM60 for a daily pass and RM150 for the three-day pass for adults while it is RM30 for a daily pass and RM80 for the three-day pass for children.
